Lyford is usually found behind the counter whipping up sandwiches, sides and cookies with the rest of the staff underneath shelves stacked with pickled vegetables that he’s preserved himself. ![]() Then Food Network popped in for a visit, declared a certain sandwich the best in Texas (we’ll get to that) and Patina Green went, as the kids say, viral. After six years of customers shopping and eating, or eating and shopping, half of Patina Green is a designated dining area. In the market’s early days, Chef Lyford, who specializes in vegetables and grew up on San Francisco sandwiches, created a to-go lunch menu. Reverence for individuality is in the air, a bird theme feathers delicately throughout and faith rests in the simple notion that true quality is timeless. Everything, antique cutting boards on up, is temporary decoration, meant to move into homes and lives. Local treasures take up residence among one-of-a kind antiques such as a breathtaking arbor in the center of the dining area. In 2012 the couple began to offer a Market Dinner series with a multiple coursed blind menu served one Saturday night each month. His original limited offerings had grown into a full lunch, with the menu changing daily based on ingredients local farmers were growing. On most days, the line for lunch is out the door and the dining room is full. ![]() Their in-shop “farmer’s market” grew quickly and the demand for Robert’s food heightened. Opening Patina Green, they felt the need to offer their community a place they could trust, knowing the food they consumed was indeed real and free of pesticides, additives, preservatives, artificial flavors and colorings. Besides weekly farmer’s markets, the quest was difficult, and so their focus for Patina Green became clear. Their eyes began to open to see the unfortunate reality of the American food system, and began their search for locally grown real food. Kaci’s mother’s husband had just lost his battle with cancer and their world was shaken. Now, after nearly 5 years in the lunch business, the owners are introducing a dinner menu on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings each week, and it will most likely be an award winner as well.Ĭhef Robert and Kaci Lyford opened Patina Green in June 2010 when their family was in need of some healing.
